Settle & Carlisle

The Settle to Carlisle railway is the most popular main line steam route in Britain. Running 72 miles, it features some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The north and southbound climbs to Ais Gill summit, on a ruling grade of 1 in 100, provided locomotive crews with one of the greatest challenges of the steam age.
